Dear Parents,
My name is Jessica Reyna, and I will be your
child’s teacher this year. A little about me: I graduated from the University
of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education with a
concentration in psychology. I grew up in Illinois, and moved to Maryland five
years ago. This is my 5th year at GES. I live in Baltimore with my
husband, two year old son and our two dogs. I am expecting my second this February! I love teaching, and am very
excited to teach your child this year! I truly look forward to getting to know both
you and your child!
Here is some important information I’d like to
share with you and your family:
Homework
GES has a new homework policy this year. Your child’s homework is to READ. I will also send home guided reading books
for your child to practice reading.
Please have them read the book each night, but return it EVERYDAY!
Rewards/Consequences
I am big on giving rewards to students who make
good choices. Rewards include verbal praise, stickers, candy (kept to a minimum,
I promise!), and more. I try to organize
the classroom and the day to decrease the chance of students making bad
choices.
We also use Class Dojo which awards points to
students when they are on task and making good choices or takes away points if
they get off task. They can receive points as a class (and throughout the whole
school i.e. during specials or at lunch) and individually. If the class as a
whole receives enough positive points they will get a prize at the end of each
month. Individually, each child needs to earn 5 points by the end of the day to
receive their sticker or free choice time.
Recess/Lunch
Recess is from 1:00-1:30. Please dress your child appropriately for the
weather outside.
Lunch is at 1:30-2:00. Children can either buy
lunch at school ($2.50 for whole lunch with milk) or ($.60 for milk) or they
can bring a lunch from home. Please fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch Forms
I’ve sent home as soon as possible. These forms take a few weeks to process so
please either send in a lunch or send in money for lunch in the meantime.
Snack
With our late lunch, the students often get hungry
in the morning. We welcome any snack donations that you may want to bring in
for the class.
Specials
We are very lucky at Gaithersburg Elementary
School because we have four specials a week! These specials include Music, PE,
Media and Art.

Changes in Pick Up
We want to assure that all students get home safely. If there
is a change to how your child is getting home please send a letter in their
take-home folders (which will be sent home every day) or call the school. If I do not receive a note or phone call
I have to send your child home the usual way! Thank you!

education. Please keep checking your
child’s folder (returning it every day) and contact me if you have ANY
