Mrs. Griffin's Class

Dear Parents,
My name is Kristin Griffin, and I will be your child’s teacher this year. A little about me: I graduated from The University of MD with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I have finished my Masters in Reading degree.  I grew up in Columbia, and went to Howard County Public Schools. I have two sons named Payton and Brady, a step daughter named Ryleigh and 2 energetic dogs! I love teaching, and am very excited to teach your child this year! I truly look forward to getting to know both you and your child!

Here is some important information I’d like to share with you and your family:

Homework
Your child’s homework is to READ.  I will also send home guided reading books for your child to practice reading.  Please have them read the book each night, but return it EVERYDAY!  We will also be sending home monthly activity calendars.

Rewards/Consequences
I am big on giving rewards to students who make good choices. Rewards include verbal praise, stickers, candy (kept to a minimum, I promise!), and more.  I try to organize the classroom and the day to decrease the chance of students making bad choices.

Recess/Lunch
Recess is at 1:00-1:30.  Please dress your child appropriately for the weather outside.
Lunch is at 1:30-2:00. Children can either buy lunch at school ($2.55 for whole lunch with milk) or they can bring a lunch from home. Please fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch Forms I’ve sent home as soon as possible. These forms take a few weeks to process, so please either send in a lunch or send in money for lunch in the meantime.

Specials
We are very lucky at Gaithersburg Elementary School because we have four specials a week! These specials include Art, P.E., Music, and Media. Additionally, your child will get to check out 1 library book as often as they like!

Please keep checking your child’s folder (returning it every day) and contact me if you have ANY questions or concerns. Thank you.

***Please remember: YOU AND I ARE A TEAM! Our team work is the key to your child’s success in school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kristin Griffin
